What to expect

Your role on site

You will be working in one of our Volt locations, helping guests swap chargers and Soundboks batteries, and handling lockers and cool lockers. No experience is needed, we train you on site before your first shift.

We are looking for people who are reliable, show up on time, bring positive energy and love the festival atmosphere as much as we do.

Your role on site

Good to know before you aply as Event Staff!

Your tasks depend on the role you take on. When you apply as event staff, you apply to one shared pool. We then invite applicants to interviews, and based on your interview, we decide which role we think suits you best: Team Leader, Area Manager or Festival Manager. You can read about the different roles below.

Team Leader
As a Team Leader, you're responsible for the day-to-day operations at your Volt location. Your main job is to lead and support your team, keep track of the bigger picture, and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible throughout your shift. Across all locations, this includes making sure volunteers know their tasks, coordinating breaks and staffing, helping your team when questions or challenges come up, and making sure our routines and procedures are followed. You're always welcome to step in and help with hands-on tasks when needed, but your main role is to keep an overview of everything rather than focusing on one specific task for the whole shift.

The general tasks and responsibilities of a Team Leader are the same across all locations. However, your specific tasks, and what you'll need to keep a particular eye on, depend on the services and setup at the location you're assigned to. We'll go through this in more detail if you're hired and once we know which location you'll be working at.

Area Manager (only at Roskilde Festival and Smukfest)
As an Area Manager, you're responsible for several Team Leaders and locations within a specific area of the festival. You support and guide your Team Leaders, make sure operations in your area run smoothly, and act as the link between the Team Leaders and our office team. The role only exists at Roskilde Festival and Smukfest, because these are the only festivals large enough to be divided into several areas.

The role requires experience as a Team Leader at a smaller event. If you don't have that, it will be part of your onboarding before you start as an Area Manager.

Festival Manager (smaller festivals)
At smaller festivals, there's no need to divide the site into areas, as we don't have nearly as many booths as at Roskilde Festival or Smukfest. Instead, we have one Festival Manager who oversees all our locations at that festival. The role is therefore very similar to the Area Manager role: you're responsible for the Team Leaders and operations, but for the entire festival rather than one area.

What's the difference between a Team Leader and an Area Manager/Festival Manager?
To sum up, Team Leaders are responsible for one booth/location, while Area Managers and Festival Managers coordinate and oversee several booths/locations within an area or across a whole festival.

Your exact working hours depend on which festival you're working at, and whether you're a Team Leader or an Area Manager/Festival Manager. As a Team Leader at Roskilde, for example, you have to work four, five or six shifts (you choose how many yourself) of 8 hours each, spread across the full festival week.

Furthermore, as Event Staff you can be part of two different teams. When you join our Event Staff, you automatically become part of our Flex Event Team. If you'd like to take on more, you can choose to join our Seasonal Event Team as well.

Flex Event Team
The Flex Event Team is our flexible staff network, which we reach out to whenever we need extra hands for festivals, events and ad hoc tasks throughout the year. You'll be assigned to at least one event from the start, after which you'll have ongoing opportunities to sign up for more jobs, events and on-call shifts. You're hired on an event-by-event basis, so there's no expectation that you commit to a full season. Before you start, you'll attend our Volt Leadership Workshop and complete the relevant e-learning, so you have the knowledge and tools you need.

Seasonal Event Team
As part of our Seasonal Event Team, you become a permanent member of the Volt crew throughout the festival season and join us at several different festivals and events during the year. The team is for those who want to take the next step at Volt, take on more responsibility and build even more experience with our operations and events.

Before the season starts, you'll be assigned to at least 3–4 events. Your role may vary from event to event depending on its size, setup and needs. You'll often be given the role of Festival/Event Manager, where you help ensure the event runs well through coordination, operations and leadership. You may also take on the role of Event Lead, where you're expected to be involved in the preparation phase before the event starts. At larger events, you may also work as an Area Manager or Team Leader. In these roles, you're expected to have a deeper understanding of our operations and will often act as extra support for the rest of the team. The added responsibility and greater flexibility are, of course, reflected in your pay.

What all these roles have in common is that we expect you to have a solid understanding of Volt and the way we work, and to take responsibility independently and proactively. That's why you'll need to attend our Volt Leadership Workshop and complete the relevant onboarding and e-learning.

Your pay depends on several factors, including whether you're a Team Leader, Area Manager or Festival Manager, which festival you're working at, whether you're part of our Flex Event Team or Seasonal Event Team, and how much seniority you have.

As a general rule, you're paid by the hour at one-day events and per shift at events lasting two days or more.

Good to know during the festival!

Since the work mostly takes place outdoors, it's important to dress for the weather. Every year we see staff show up wearing far too little - so please make sure to bundle up! You can always take clothes off, but standing around freezing is genuinely no fun. Furthermore, as a Team Leader you'll be given a black Volt t-shirt, and as an Area Manager you'll get a green t-shirt. You have to wear the t-shirt over your own clothes during your shifts.

Find your Volt friends: Who wears which colored t-shirts?
- Area Managers wear green t-shirts.
- Team Leaders wear black t-shirts.
- Volunteers wear yellow t-shirts.
- Production wears brown t-shirts.
- Office wears beige t-shirts.
