A wristband for the festival or event you work at, so you can enjoy it when you're off shift.

What to expect

Your role on site

You work at our Volt locations, where guests swap powerbanks and SOUNDBOKS batteries and rent lockers and cool lockers. You lead the volunteers, keep the overview and make sure everything runs smoothly. Before your first shift you go through our Volt Leadership Workshop and e-learning, so you know what to do.

We're looking for people who:

  • Are reliable and always on time
  • Bring positive energy to the team
  • Love the festival atmosphere as much as we do

What's the difference between a volunteer and event staff?

Volunteers work a set number of shifts at our booths in return for a festival wristband and Volt's perks. Event staff are paid, and lead: you take responsibility for a booth, an area or a whole festival, and for the volunteers working there.

What will my tasks be?

It depends on your role. Everyone who applies as event staff applies to one shared pool. We invite applicants to an interview, and from it we decide which role suits you best: Team Leader, Area Manager or Festival Manager.

Team Leader: you run the day-to-day operations at your Volt location. You lead and support your team, keep the bigger picture and make sure everything runs smoothly through your shift: volunteers know their tasks, breaks and staffing are coordinated, questions get answered and our routines are followed. You're welcome to help with hands-on tasks, but your job is the overview. What you keep an eye on depends on the services and setup at your location; we go through it with you once you're hired.

Area Manager (only at Roskilde Festival and Smukfest): you're responsible for several Team Leaders and locations in one area of the festival. You support and guide your Team Leaders, make sure your area runs smoothly, and are the link between them and our office team. The role needs experience as a Team Leader at a smaller event; if you don't have it, it becomes part of your onboarding.

Festival Manager (smaller festivals): smaller festivals aren't divided into areas, so one Festival Manager oversees all our locations there. The role is much like the Area Manager's, only for the whole festival.

In short: a Team Leader is responsible for one booth, while Area Managers and Festival Managers coordinate several booths, in an area or across a whole festival.

How much do I have to work?

It depends on the festival and your role. As a Team Leader at Roskilde Festival, for example, you work four, five or six shifts of 8 hours (you choose how many), spread across the festival week.

As event staff you join our Flex Event Team: the flexible network we reach out to whenever we need extra hands for festivals, events and one-off jobs through the year. You start with at least one event and can sign up for more as they come. You're hired event by event, with no need to commit to a whole season.

Want more? Join our Seasonal Event Team as well, and you're part of the Volt crew for the whole festival season. You're given at least 3–4 events before the season starts, often as Festival Manager or Event Lead (who also helps prepare the event beforehand), and at bigger events as Area Manager or Team Leader. More responsibility and more flexibility, and your pay reflects it.

Whichever team you're on, you take part in our Volt Leadership Workshop and the onboarding and e-learning that go with your role.

What's the pay?

It depends on your role (Team Leader, Area Manager or Festival Manager), the festival, whether you're on the Flex or the Seasonal Event Team, and your seniority.

As a rule, you're paid by the hour at one-day events, and per shift at events of two days or more.

How do I get a Danish tax card? (for international staff)

Step 1, your documents: have digital copies (PDF or photo) of your signed employment contract, your passport or national ID, a work or residence permit if you're from outside the EU/EEA, and, if you like, your marriage certificate (for extra deductions).

Step 2a, no Danish CPR number or MitID yet: apply at most one month before your first working day. Fill in form 04.063 on skat.dk, enter your expected income before tax for the rest of the year, upload your documents and submit. It takes about two weeks.

Step 2b, you already have a CPR number and MitID: log in at skat.dk/tastselv with MitID, choose Forskudsopgørelsen (preliminary income assessment), click Nyt job (new job), enter your expected pay and start date, then Beregn (calculate) and Godkend (accept). It updates straight away.

The tax card is entirely digital: we fetch it ourselves, so you don't need to send it to us.

The kinds of tax card: an A-kort is for your main job and uses your monthly tax-free allowance, with one employer at a time. A B-kort is for a second job: no allowance, so you pay your full tax rate from the first krone. A frikort is for low or short seasonal incomes: no tax until you reach the yearly tax-free limit (about 48,000–50,000 DKK).

Where do I sleep during the festival?

It depends on the event. You'll see the shift packages and what comes with them when booking opens, no later than three weeks before the event.

Can I work with my friends?

Yes. Book the same shift package and location as your friends and you'll work together.

What should I wear on my shifts?

Most of the work is outdoors, so dress for the weather. Every year someone shows up in far too little: bring layers. You can always take clothes off, but standing around freezing is no fun.

As a Team Leader you get a black Volt t-shirt, as an Area Manager a green one, to wear over your own clothes on shift. Who's who: Area Managers wear green, Team Leaders black, volunteers yellow, production brown and the office beige.
